Human Factors Product Research

Passenger fit, function & baggage

A cutting edge innovation team in the Hyundai Motor Group partnered with me on building a flying vehicle. I conducted qualitative and quantitative user research on passenger ergonomics and baggage needs for travel to make flying eVTOLs a reality.

Duration

Multiple 4 week sprints

Team

User Experience Researchers, Product Managers & Product Engineers

My Role

I was the Lead User Researcher, and collaborated with a team of two additional researchers, as well as product managers and product engineers. My research team led the research studies with the vehicle prototype and equipment support from the product teams. I designed research guides, surveys and artifacts. I led research sessions, then analyzed the data, and provided product learnings.

Solution

We executed a multi-method research study that delivered both qualitative and quantitative data and insights on the ergonomics and passenger behaviors for the flying vehicle. Findings were delivered to the product and engineering teams through workshops and a formal report.

Ergonomics, ingress, baggage

We conducted multiple rounds of research to inform:

  1. How passengers step in and out of the aircraft
  2. Reactions to varying window sizes
  3. Comfort with varying seat materials and seat belt designs
  4. Baggage expectations, limits, weights, and sizes

Anchoring on real people

We designed personas to bring the data and insights to a central foundation. We used this tool to build empathy throughout teams for the real people who would be passengers of the vehicles we were designing.

Let’s chat about how these insights influenced the decisions of the design team. I’d be happy to walk you through my strategy and process.
